Biography
Dr. Young-Dan Cho is a leading dentist and scientist (Periodontology and Molecular Genetics). Currently she is working as a full-time faculty in Department of Periodontology at Seoul National University School of Dentistry. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology at Seoul National University and obtained a dual degree in DDS-PhD from Seoul National University School of Dentistry. She studied in Ann Arbor at University of Michigan with Dr. William V. Giannobile as an Osteology Research Scholar. Based on the in-depth studies of the basic molecular mechanism of bone formation with BMP- and WNT-signaling pathways, she has developed a great interest in epigenetics, the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than by alteration of the genetic code itself. Furthermore, with her clinical expertise in periodontology and implantology, she has expanded her research fields to periodontal tissue regeneration, dental implant materials, and genome-wide analysis in periodontal disease and implant dentistry. Based on these academic backgrounds, she is an expert on translational research in dentistry with extensive publications and directs the CK Institute for saving the teeth with clinical and basic educational courses.
